How To Get What You Want: Goal Setting With Clarity

What do you want? Feeling lost has been a huge issue we constantly face in life. It seems that the feeling will never go away. However, there are steps you could follow to seek clarity – by goal setting.

What is your version of an ideal life?

Is it a fancy car, a happy family, or wealth?

Are you still striving for your ideal life,

or are you too stressed to even consider it?

I have a friend who was unsure about his future after college.

He didn’t know what career he wanted.

But a few years later, he had a revelation.

He wanted to be a pilot, and he made it happen.

I’ve always admired people with clear life goals.

I used to love hopping on a random bus,

enjoying the mystery of where it would take me.

My life felt the same, uncertain and unplanned.

I want to know where I’m going.

I want to know what I want.

So, I asked my pilot friend,

“How did you find such clarity in your life goals?”

His answer was simpler than expected.

“I visualized my future and penned down a 10-year plan.

And I frequently imagined the satisfaction of achieving these goals.”

I applied the method, along with skills from books I’ve read, and was astounded by the results. It all comes to how you set your goals and seek clarity in the precess.

Here are some easy steps you can follow on goal setting:

1. Shape your Vision

Start with a clear idea of your ultimate life goals.

  • Dream Big: What is your ultimate achievement?
  • Identify Your Core: What are your key values and interests?

Begin by focusing on yourself, your relationships, and your skills.

Bring these visions to life visually with a vision board.

2. Define your feeling

  • What’s the main feeling you want to have in your life?
  • What can you do to generate it?

3. Design SMART Goals

Break down your long-term vision into smaller, actionable goals.

Make sure they are:

  • Specific: Clear and well-defined.
  • Measurable: Quantifiable to track progress or success.
  • Achievable: Realistic and attainable.
  • Relevant: In line with your values.
  • Time-bound: With a clear start and end date.

4. Craft a Goals Timeline

Make a timeline for your goals, sorted by different parts of your life.

Think about your future path and mark the important goals you want to reach.

On my personal timeline board, I also record the skills necessary for reaching these goals.

So I can obsessively develop those skills.

5. Celebrate success

Don’t forget to celebrate your small wins along the way.

Take time to acknowledge your progress, no matter how small.

Reward yourself for reaching milestones.

Taking the time to visualize and plan out your life can provide clarity and focus.

As you move along on your journey, I hope these tips could guide and help you gain clarity, set goals effectively and stay motivated.

Don’t let uncertainty hold you back—

take charge of your destiny and start mapping out your path to success.
